This leaflet is aimed at teenagers who have a parent who has manic depression and is published by the Manic Depression Fellowhip U.K.

The leaflet begins by covering a manic attack before a diagnosis is made and the confusion as to what is happpening to the parent and the family. Teenagers are easily embarrassed by any parent but this can happen more often when a parent has manic depression and this is mentioned along with the fear of visiting a psychiatric hospital for the first time. Schoolwork may be affected as teenagers may have to help out in the home in various ways. Useful ideas are given in this leaflet on how to cope with the various situations and suggestions are made on whom to contact, e.g. teacher, G.P. etc. as well as telephone numbers of organisations who may be helpful. A reassurance is given at the end of the leaflet emphasising that the parent may have been ill, but they never stop loving their children and with time and help, the future is still there for the teenager.

This leaflet covers the following topics:

I was totally confused about what was happening.
She made me so embarrassed.
I hated seeing my dad in hospital
I just couldn't get my homework done on time.
I had to look after Mum instead of her looking after me
Survival tactics
Who will help me?
Dad threatened to kill himself
It was great when Mum was better.
